Valentine's 2024 post-mortem
Valentine's week 2024 across 38 Floree tenants: 4.1× normal-week revenue, 3.6× volume, 28% same-day-delivery uptake. Two operational lessons we'll carry into 2025: stagger pickup windows, and start the cards SKU panic 21 days early.
Aggregate
Across 38 active tenants for the week of 11–17 February 2024:
- 4.1× normal-week gross
- 3.6× normal-week dispatch volume
- AED 295 median ticket (+9% YoY)
- 28% of orders chose paid same-day delivery
- 41% of orders included a premium card
What broke
Three shops had cooler capacity issues — they planned for stem volume but not for the staging area needed to pre-assemble 200 bouquets the night before. Two shops had delivery overflow at the 4–6pm window because every customer chose "deliver between 4 and 6"; we should have priced that window higher.
What worked
- Shops that started Valentine's prep at T-21 days hit zero stockouts. Those who started T-7 ran out of garden roses by Day 1.
- Premium cards (Sending LOVE, Be Mine, Forever) outsold the entire prior month combined. The Forever card alone did 1,400 units across the network.
- The "deliver before 12 noon" upsell — AED 60 surcharge — cleared 19% of orders and bought significant breathing room downstream.
Operational changes for V-Day 2025
- Default the storefront delivery picker to a wider range of windows
- Charge 30% more for the 4–6pm window and 50% more for "before noon"
- Pre-stage Valentine's premium templates 30 days out
- Run a wholesaler standing order T-14 with a 20% upside on garden roses
